Actos and Weight Gain

A clinical trial observing the side effects of Actos (pioglitazone) found that weight gain is a potential side effect. A gain of more than five pounds in a week may be a sign of congestive heart failure, which is also a potential side effect of Actos use.1 Weight gain occurs as a result of water retention or accumulation of fat.

* Actos is a drug used to control high blood sugar in type 2 diabetes.
* Medical professionals are unsure of why exactly Actos can cause weight gain.
* In clinical trials, when Actos use was combine with other diabetic medications or insulin, the amount of weight gained increased.
* Taking Glucophage (metformin) along with Actos may minimize the amount of weight gained in some cases.

  1. Serious side effects of actos were bladder cancer and heart disease which this greatly affect with many patients who are taking this medicine which has type 2 diabetes. It was reported that patients were filing for actos lawsuit against the manufacturer due to the injuries brought to them. It has the possibility that actos will be banned.
